Google has announced that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has moved 11,200 crew members to Gmail as part of the airline's deployment of Google Apps Premier Edition.
The KLM Employees' familiarity with Google's consumer products means that minimal or no training was needed for the corporate deployment, which marks KLM's move to cloud computing.
KLM's new solution means crew members will be able to send and receive e-mails from any location and using any Internet connected device, including personal laptops, shared computers, Blackberries, mobile phones or PDAs.
The adoption of Gmail gives crew 25 GB of storage per account, and provides them with a powerful, intuitive and efficient messaging platform with integrated IM (Google Talk) and a series of additional features that improve international communications, such as Message Translation, which allows users to translate e-mails from and into 42 different languages with one mouse click.
Adrian Joseph, Managing Director of Google Enterprise for Europe, Middle East and Africa (pictured) commented: "We are delighted to announce this global airline as our new customer. The accessibility and flexibility that Google Apps offer makes it a particularly attractive solution for businesses with a large number of mobile users, allowing them to enhance their internal communication network."
Google Apps Premier Edition also offers Google Calendar, a suite of collaboration products including Google Docs( which allow users to create and share documents, presentations and spreadsheets in real-time), Google Sites(an application that makes creating a website as easy as editing a document) and Google Video for Business (which makes company content and communication more personal, visual and engaging).
