The history of IaC: what you need to unlearn in DevOps

The rate of evolution in the DevOps industry gets faster every year. To stay ahead of the curve and achieve extraordinary results, we not only have to constantly learn, we also have to “unlearn” things. That might sound paradoxical at first, but the history of DevOps provides plenty of examples as to why that is a good idea.

One that we want to highlight in this webinar is the history of Infrastructure as Code (IaC). How did it evolve from its humble beginnings to the mainstream approach to infrastructure management? What can we learn from what we unlearned back then, to forecast what the next big thing is we should unlearn today?

We are very excited to dive into this with Barry O'Reilly, author of the book Unlearn and Kief Morris, author of the book Infrastructure as Code.

Topics we will cover:

Why is it so important to unlearn if you want to stay innovative?

How did it feel to manipulate the first AWS EC2 instance with IaC? How did this trickle down through the industry?

What to unlearn next in DevOps and IaC? Is it already time to unlearn IaC?

After a 30 minutes talk, there will be 15 minutes for Q&A. We’d like to encourage you to submit your questions in advance.

A recording of the webinar and related materials will be shared with webinar attendees afterwards.
