Founder of Anti-virus Company Reported Dead in Spanish Prison Awaiting Extradition on Tax Evasion Charges
The founder of anti-virus company McAfee, John McAfee, has been found dead in the cell of a Spanish prison.
McAfee, aged 75, had been in the custody of the Spanish authorities since October 2020 when he was arrested at the request of the US Department of Justice. His extradition was built on the case that he had earnt milions of dollars between 2014 - 2018 but failed to file income tax returns.
His death, which is suspected to be a suicide, comes just hours after the Spanish High Court had authorised his extradition to the US to face the charges.
McAfee founded the antivirus company McAfee Associates in the US in 1987. The company was morphed into Network Associates.
