Druid Support CBRS Test on Snowcone

Irish Company Druid Software Support Federated Wireless in Amazon Web Services Snowcone Tests

Hire fixed cost Java Developers

Druid Software, the Bray-based developer of private 5G & 4G cellular technology, has successfully supported its partner Federated Wireless in their latest testing of its OnGo shared spectrum technology on AWS Snowcone devices.

Snowcone is the smallest of the Amazon Web Services Snow Family of edge computing devices used for edge storage and data transfer needs up to 8 terabytes per device.

Federated Wireless is a very innovative partner. It is great to be working with their team on another CBRS opportunity for Industry with this ideal edge computing device

With its ruggedized, secure, and purpose-built design, the Snowcone is ideal for use outside of a traditional data centre; for tight spaces or where portability is a necessity, for example, in the backpacks of first responders, or for IoT, vehicular, and even drone use cases.

In April 2015, the Federal Communications Commission in the United States formally established Citizen Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) for shared commercial use of the 3.5 GHz (3550-3700 MHz) band with the incumbent military radars and fixed satellite stations. Access to interference-free bandwidth enhances wireless coverage options, creating new business models and service opportunities. It is widely accepted that the additional spectrum available for flexible wireless broadband is a game changer to traditional Wi-Fi solutions, especially for IoT, entertainment, hospitality, healthcare and apartment living etc.

Federated Wireless provides the access technology giving commercial users dynamic and secure access to the 3.5 GHz band whilst at the same time ensuring the incumbants are protected. Additionally, as a systems integrator and network provider they are also delivering some of the first private network solutions in CBRS using Druid Software's EPC (4G) and (5GC) for 5G on AWS Snowcones as a potential edge device for customers with business or mission critical needs.

The company's President and CEO, Iyad Tarazi, congratulated Druid’s ability to scale down a complete 5G & 4G cellular core network to run on a device as small and portable as the AWS Snowcone, saying it makes the combination a perfect fit for CBRS. “Druid’s ability to deliver a “MEC+” experience where they have scaled their Raemis 5G/4G core platform down to run on one the smallest devices in the AWS Snow family, is a great example of the agility and the ease of management and control of their core platform.”

Druid CEO, Liam Kenny, said; “Federated Wireless is a very innovative partner. It is great to be working with their team on another CBRS opportunity for Industry with this ideal edge computing device.”
